C P Perry (MBE) Memorial Shield
In 1989 the C P Perry M.B.E Memorial Shield was presented to the New Zealand Sheep Dog Trial Association by the Perry family in memory of Cyril Perry MBE and the service he gave to dog trials in New Zealand.
A true legend to our sport, Cyril Perry served on the National Council of the NZ association for 28 years and, for 11 of those, he was the National President. To date no one in the New Zealand dog trial history has come even close to challenging this record.
While President, he was responsible for getting the Dog Show on television, won a national shorthead and yard in 1977 and judged in every North Island Centre, hence his being awarded an MBE.
Points are awarded for the Centre (province) of each competitor in the NZ Championship finals. They are awarded from seven points for the winners down to one point for the seventh placing. The Cyril Perry Shield is awarded to the centre with the most points over all four events.
It is very prestigious to win the C P Perry M.B.E Memorial Shield and there is always intense rivalry between the Centres.
